Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to Z-Islamica: Journal of Islamic Studies undergo a double-blind peer review process to ensure academic integrity, originality, and scholarly contribution. The editorial team is committed to maintaining a rigorous and fair review process, following international standards of academic publishing.

Key Steps in the Review Process:

  1. Initial Screening
The Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor conducts an initial check to assess the manuscript’s alignment with the journal’s scope, formatting compliance, and basic academic quality. Manuscripts that do not meet the criteria may be rejected without review.

  2. Similarity Check
Each submission is checked using plagiarism detection software. Manuscripts with more than 25% similarity (excluding references and quotes) may be returned or rejected.

  3. Assignment to Reviewers
Suitable manuscripts are assigned to at least two reviewers with relevant academic expertise. Both the authors and reviewers remain anonymous during the process (double-blind).

  4. Review Duration
Reviewers are expected to submit their reports within 2–4 weeks. Extensions may be granted upon request.

  5. Review Criteria
    Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on:

    • Originality and novelty

    • Relevance to Islamic studies and/or Islamic economics

    • Theoretical framework and methodology

    • Scholarly contribution and significance

    • Clarity of presentation and academic writing

  6. Editorial Decision
Based on reviewers’ feedback, the editorial board may decide:

    • Accept as is

    • Accept with minor revisions

    • Revise and resubmit (major revisions required)

    • Reject

  7. Revision and Re-submission
Authors are given a specific timeframe (usually 2–3 weeks) to revise their manuscripts. Revised manuscripts may be sent back to the original reviewers for further evaluation.

  8. Final Decision and Publication
The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief. Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, layout, and publication in the forthcoming issue.

Confidentiality and Ethics

The peer review process is strictly confidential. Reviewers are expected to treat all submissions with utmost confidentiality and to disclose any conflicts of interest. The journal follows the ethical guidelines outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
